Sabbath, November 25, 2011

Our Sabbath was a sweet blessing, on a beautiful day in Smyrna valley. Sabbath School began with prayer and song service. Sister Arlene Bailey shared devotional thoughts, and following intercessory prayer, Brother Leon Holt led the adult lesson study on the last few verses in Revelation. The Juniors had a nature lesson on the Portuguese Man of War, and their lesson study was about the seven churches of Revelation 2 and 3. As an introduction to the lesson, we discussed letters in general and how we enjoy receiving them, and we read one of Sister Ellen White’s early letters to her sons, Henry, Edson, and Willie, written while she and James White were on a missionary trip to Iowa during the cold, snowy month of December. You may view the nature pictures of the Portuguese Man of War here, the introductory slide presentation here, and the lesson presentation here, or maybe you would rather take the Juniors’ quiz about the seven churches here.

The Worship service began with prayer and an opening hymn. Brother Leon Holt led the congregation in intercessory prayer, and Sister Onycha Holt shared an interesting children’s story about camels. You may listen to the story here. Last week's story about Lady the Golden Eagle can be heard by clicking here.

Pastor Allen Stump next presented the message of the hour, entitled The Eternal Purpose. This very important sermon explained Ephesians 3:10, in the light of 1 Corinthians 4:9, 1 Peter 1:12 and other such texts, and Spirit of Prophecy references. We urge you to listen to this sermon by clicking here. The service closed with special music and prayer. We then greeted, by conference call, our long-distance listeners. May your new week be filled with a close walk with God.

“To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God” (Ephesians 3:10).
