Sabbath Report March 13, 2010

But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7)

Our Sabbath was surely a blessed time together as we met for study and worship. Sabbath School began with prayer and song service led by Brother Leon Holt. The devotional was shared by Brother Michael Woodward on the entanglement of lies Jacob and Rebekah entered upon to obtain the birthright instead on waiting on God. Sister Elaine Nailing led the Sabbath School in praise and prayer requests and then offered intercessory prayer. Brother Leon Holt led the adults in their lesson study, comparing Matthew 24, the 6th seal, and the close of probation. The young people’s class focused on pages 272 and 273 in Messages to Young People about the importance of choosing good reading material, on Ecclesiastes 10:1-8, and on a story about Pastor William Stidger’s encounter with Henry W. Luce, who had been a missionary to China for thirty years.

The Worship Hour began with prayer by Pastor Allen Stump. The congregation then lifted their voices in praise to our heavenly Father and his Son Jesus Christ by singing “For the Beauty of the Earth.” Following prayer requests, Brother Leon Holt led the congregation in intercessory prayer. Sister Onycha Holt then shared a children’s story about Mao, the only Christian in his district in China, and Wu Pao, his unlikely first convert. You may hear this story by clicking here.

Pastor Stump then presented the message of the hour about forgiveness. The key text was Matthew 18:21, 22 and it was a blessing to us all. Pastor Stump encouraged us to forgive as Christ has forgiven us, fully and freely. The service closed with the hymn “There Is a Gate That Stands Ajar” and with prayer. You may hear the message on forgiveness by clicking here.

Following the close of the service, we were happy to greet our long-distance church family and to hear how God has blessed others during the past week. We are looking forward to greeting you face-to-face at the West Virginia camp meeting in June, if possible, and until the time that we can meet together, we hope that you will continue to worship with us Sabbath mornings and for prayer meeting on Wednesday evenings. May God protect you through the coming days is our prayer.

Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. (Matthew 18:21, 22)
