We have had lovely Sabbaths here at Smyrna Gospel Ministries during the past two weeks, and we apologize for the delay in updating our Sabbath report. Our hands have been busy with many things and we hope that you also have been busy about God’s work, whether it be inside or outside your home. God is good and we praise him for his continual mercies.

Sabbath School

Last Sabbath our Sabbath School began with prayer and then a song service led by Brother Leon Holt. A devotional was shared by Sister Onycha Holt on the “exceeding” wisdom of the spider (Proverbs 30:24, 28) and the strong and durable web spiders weave every day. Next we shared with each other how God has blessed us during the past week and we also shared our prayers requests. Following this, we had a sweet season of prayer, which lasted until time for the worship hour to begin, for Hans Stump who was in the hospital at that time.

From Pastor Stump: As perhaps many of our friends know, a little over seven years ago Hans fought a victorious battle against cancer, and his life since then has been a series of challenges. Most recently, a very large tumor has been discovered in the upper left portion of his chest. After being in three different hospitals, he was sent to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where it was determined that this mass is basically inoperable. At the current time, the tumor is not causing many problems but the future is in God’s hands. We greatly appreciate your prayers for Hans and his family. (When he was sick over seven years ago, we received numerous letters and calls counseling us on how he should be treated. We appreciated all the sincere interest and concerns and we understand there are many different options available, so please give us the opportunity of considering the options that we are already well aware of without weighing us down with more advice and counsel at this time. Thank you.)

On the previous Sabbath, devotional thoughts were shared by Pastor Stump and included a quiz on righteousness by faith. We are adding the quiz to this report (see left column) and hope that it will bless you as much as it blessed us that Sabbath morning.

Worship Service

The worship hour for April 28 began with a hymn of praise, prayer by Brother Glen Ford, and then special music by Brother Leon Holt. A children’s story was shared by Sister Onycha Holt on Alma McKibben, one of our early Seventh-day Adventist educators. The sermon was presented by Pastor Stump on working faith, and several places in the Bible were looked at where faith was put into action.

Over six years ago we envisioned a video series that would cover the truth about God in detail, and we are very pleased to announce that the recording for next video, “Ellen G. White and the Godhead,” has been finished and we hope to have it edited and ready for distribution by camp meeting and hopefully before. This video is extremely well-documented and will provide much help to those who question the reliability of Ellen White and who want to know her true position on God, so if you are interested in obtaining a copy, please let us know.

Until next Sabbath, may you be safely kept in the loving care of our Saviour.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end (Eccl. 3:11-NKJV).
